Swarthmoor Hall History Group
The History Group at Swarthmoor Hall was established some years ago to look deeper into the story of the house and its people. A Journal, published once or twice a year, records the results of our endeavours.
At present we are engaged in cataloguing a collection of 300 plus letters and associated documents, some dating from the early 19th century relating to Emma Clarke Abraham, a direct descendant of Margaret Fell who bought Swarthmoor in 1912. They illustrate Emma’s great interest in the Hall and her family’s Quaker credentials and throw an interesting light on some anecdotal stories associated with the early history of the house.
