We are seeking an experienced, professional Groundsperson for the beautiful grounds, gardens, and site at Swarthmoor Hall – a Grade II listed historic/heritage property and the home of Quakerism in Britain. You will have demonstrable grounds and garden experience within a similar historic house/national heritage site, outdoor attraction, or visitor experience with substantial grounds. This includes groundwork, gardens and horticultural maintenance, site oversight and some property and buildings maintenance.

Skills and experience required

As our Groundsperson, you’ll take responsibility for maintaining the landscapes, planting flower beds and the general upkeep of the grounds and gardens. You will maintain everything in top condition for our guests and visitors.

You will ensure that the annual grounds/site maintenance plans and activities are effectively and properly supported and delivered in a timely manner throughout the year. You will do this in accordance with the Swarthmoor site interpretation guidelines, seasonal planning, grounds/garden maintenance and development programmes.

You will support the manager in the actioning of planned and ‘ad-hoc’ maintenance around the Swarthmoor site, as may be necessary.

  • You must have a courteous and professional manner and be confident and passionate in your work.
  • You will be expected to uphold the values of Quakers in Britain and Quiet Company including full EDI compliance.

You will work 3 days from 7, including occasional weekend work. You will need to be flexible with the days and times you are able to work. Working hours are typically between 8am and 5pm, with hours varying on a weekly basis.

We are offering an attractive package to the right candidate, plus the opportunity to play a major role in the interpretation and reopening of this historic site. Our aim is for it to become one of the foremost visitor attractions in the region.

We are offering an annual salary increase, exceptional pension scheme, employee benefits, and a generous leave allowance. Only candidates eligible to work in the UK or with a valid UK work permit will be considered for the role.
