I really enjoyed the peace of this place.
I had a guided tour by Tim who was very knowledgeable and had a genuine love for the place.
I hadn't realised Quakers had been involved in so much.
When I eventually finish my spare I'll will definitely be recommending it to guests. I'll also be giving it a plug or two when I'm back at work.

What a beautiful and tranquil place to enjoy and learn something from. The history of the origins of The Society of Friends/Quakerism encapsulated in this serene and yet incredibly important space. We didn't realise that this unique spot is almost on our doorstep and we're fortunate enough to visit on a perfect sunny Saturday and saw it in all its summery glory. All the lovely staff from the guy in the office and the lovely café lady and her helpers clearly care about the history and essence of the place and couldn't have offered a warmer welcome.
We also took up the offer of a guided tour around the fabulously and lovingly restored hall itself. Tim, the excellent and knowledgeable guide took us around with enthusiasm and an obvious love for this very special place. Tim explained the history and origins of the house and its remarkable significance not just to local Cumbrian history but also communicated the huge importance of how the Quakers of Swarthmoor Hall impacted on religious progress nationally and internationally.
We then ambled around the gardens in the sunshine at our leisure and enjoyed the peace and serenity that has been created there. With lots of little areas dotted about for visitors to sit and enjoy the surroundings, the gardens provide a genuine and natural contemplative space to step out of the hurly burly of the world around us! The busy A590 is only a short step away but visitors enter what can only be described as a time warp that envelops them in an ambience of peace and serenity. But after exploring the hall, you are left with the sense of amazement that this sensationally well hidden and relatively small dwelling holds the very origins of some of the most influential religious and political change, turmoil and reform to impact religious life in England!
