Meet the team behind Swarthmoor Hall
You can count on our dedicated team of staff and volunteers for a warm welcome, whether you’re visiting the Hall, staying for a few days or just stopping for a coffee.
John Moffat
General Manager
John has impressive credentials, having been General Manager for 20 years at National Trust, overseeing the South Lakes portfolio. Prior to that, John was in a director role for the Scouts in Switzerland for ten years, and has a natural affinity with Quaker values.
Jean Skelton
Trading & Visitor Experience Co-ordinator
Jean was a mental health nurse for many years before retiring in 2020. She then became a volunteer at Swarthmoor Hall and moved on to her current position. Jean has lots of other interests, including travelling, human rights, history such as here at Swarthmoor and the Tudors, reading, and spending time with her family.
David Oprey
Groundsperson
David is the latest addition to the team, joining us in November 2023. He provides ongoing site maintenance to ensure our buildings and grounds remain attractive, welcoming spaces. David is a keen beekeeper and looks after the hives in our wildflower meadow.
Jenny Ormandy
Housekeeping Supervisor
Jenny has been with us since 2013. She ensures that our site and accommodation is immaculate for guests and visitors. Jenny loves meeting people and creating a warm environment that feels like a home from home.
Nick Smith
General Site Assistant
Nick has worked at Swarthmoor Hall since 2006. He is a familiar face to our visitors and helps with many aspects of repair and maintenance.
